When I look out my windows, I see the Catoctin Mountains, which border the Frederick Valley in Maryland. As I look around, I am reminded that geology is the basis for our natural world.
I’m Liz Koozmin, and I am a geologist, cartographer, and award-winning editor. During my long career as an editor, I was privileged to work closely with Federal, State, and academic scientists on a wide variety of geoscience products including geologic and thematic maps, complex scientific reports, fact sheets, and web sites. Editing for the geosciences combines my love for geology and maps with my love of writing.
I founded Catoctin Editorial Services to offer expert writing and editing services for scientists and others who need the results of their research projects to be clear, concise, and understandable to a wide variety of audiences. I have had extensive experience working with scientists for whom English is not their first language, but who wish to publish in English-language journals. I have also edited non-scientific material, including business materials and personal documents (memoirs, resumes, and others).
I have a B.S. in Geology with a minor in writing from Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.) and an M.S. in Geographic and Cartographic Science from George Mason University (Fairfax, Va.).
I am proud of my long tradition of offering gentle suggestions for improvement and working closely with authors to give their products personal attention. Allow me to be your second set of eyes for anything from proofreading to comprehensive editing.
